Muslim Murasu, April 2011
Central and state governments pay attention to the welfare of people and offer assistance in food, clothing, shelter and life needs. Leaders like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru served for long-term national development. Today there are many leaders who are oblivious to leadership qualities. They have laid foundation for their public life through graffiti, life-size posters and daily notices.
Freebies are implemented as schemes to attract people to public events. The selfishness of political party leaders, district and state level party administrators are transmitted to people through newspaper and television. Frustrated people are completely rejecting. Education and hard work earn importance.
Ministers distribute freebies in events to prove public popularity. Long-term, beneficial schemes are shelved. Freebies are thrown away to garner immediate benefit, people’s applause and to retain crowd mentality. Forty percent people teetering under poverty have to cling to the legs of politicians and revenue department officials for lack of any other option. Town, union and district secretaries are cooling off under fake reputation through disbursal of freebies. They are enslaving people.
Freebies are not needed. Human self-respect is being alienated. One should take refuge under politician. Minister, higher official, district level party administrator who do not part away a single penny from their hereditary ancestral wealth, land revenue or personal income could not be granted right to fritter away government fund. Poisonous hand should not rise; citizen should not fall. This is not period of despotic kings. They don’t offer helping hand.
Poverty comes as a ruse for party administrators and ministers to hide their inabilities. Crowd is not gathering to see or listen to politicians participating in foundation stone laying ceremony, national festival or opening ceremonies. Crowd is collected by disbursing freebies. Otherwise the party will not get even ten percent votes. Reputation of party cadres is not going to rise by giving away free television sets, free gas connection, free Waistey, saree, free school bag, slippers, bicycle, uniform, marriage assistance and free gold ring. Prices are soaring uncontrollably. Cost of basic materials needed for house construction like cement, sand, pebbles and bricks should come down. Price of quality rice is 40 rupees per kilogram. Monthly rental crisis in city is 10000 rupees. Freebies should be jettisoned as an abyss concept. Government is failing in its duties. People should be allowed to live with self-respect. Toxic hands of politicians should not bless people. Incompetent people need not take shelter. Freebies will exacerbate the mentality of laziness. Charity, donating and helping will disappear from the society. Freebies are testament to demonic character of politicians.
