Independent Ministry For Religious Preaching

Muslim Murasu, September 2012

Tamil people, by and large, believe in God. Religious preachers are functioning independently and guarding high ideals. They spend better part of their lives for religious works. Hinduism, Islam and Christianity are important religions in Tamilnadu. Sikhism, Buddhism and Parsi have some followers. Politics and cinema receive major and larger attention. Young generation, with unrestrained curiosity, take plunge into a life of competition. Life based on ideals, traditional values and culture seems out of place. Politicians have made it a habit to brazenly and boldly tell lies in public events. Looting property of others has become rampant. Police violence on law college students in Chennai and brutal murder of a hosteler in Chidambaram medical college bear clear witness to culture of violence in Tamilnadu. Culture should not be allowed to deteriorate further. Causing ruckus in Assembly is another routine sad scene. Indecency and vulgarity is spreading through five star hotels, malls and multiplexes. Religious institutions have not propagated essence of religious values. Instead, they focus on rites and customs. A deep grasp of religion and its fundamentals are in decline in Tamilnadu. Materialistic rage and consumerist craving are on the rampage. Religious values should be imprinted in nascent hearts in childhood during school days. Tamilnadu should lead the nation by creating a separate ministry for this. Tamil scholars, saints and spiritualists have the capacity to guide the entire nation. Rulers have the important responsibility to identify them. Only then Tamilnadu will become numero uno state by 2023. Forty percent of government money continuously being looted by upper section will impede life of Tamil society. Cultural revival can happen by thrusting faith in God. This can stop Tamilians from bestial mentality. Religious preachers should be identified at Taluk, district and state levels, and should be invited and  honored in government functions. Five percent of state budget should be allotted for a focused department for religious preaching.

Commentary Problem

Muslim Murasu, May 2012

Quran commentary saw new developments in 1980s. Youngsters showed interest in new premises in Tamilnadu. Islamic movement was on the rise. Intentions of the organizations were thrust in the name of divine message. New organizations ruled the roost. Ideology caused formation of new organizations. Import of money and lifestyle from Arab world divided Tamil Muslim society into two. Traditional Tamil Muslims, their lifestyle, were being successfully trampled. Same verse was given two different meanings. This is Mecca period; we should be patient. This was one preaching. Not possible; not at all; this is Medina period; we should prepare for fight. Fanatic, poisonous ideas, half-baked commentaries made Tamil Muslims frantic. Chaos and deceptions were the norm. Quran explanations were no exceptions. One preaching was pro-government, pro-establishment. Another group was completely antagonistic to government. The government that was bystander until then started to lunge, seize and gnaw. Result was imprisonment, court hassles, pursuance  by police and banning of movements.
This gave a rude jolt. Islamic movement became dull. Youngsters withdrew. Western, modern elites used the opportunity well and propagated lewdness. Materialistic rage surged. Parents were not respected. Love affairs, flash marriages, sexual aggression, increasing divorces, swelling widow population, parsimony and extravagance, Quran teachings have become more important in this situation. Gradually weekly Quran discourses are being introduced in Muhallas. Preacher should have the background in his mind. Tamil Muslims have been kept aloof from Quran for the past forty years. Story narration, dwelling on incidents, self propaganda, Dravidian terminologies, these have become core elements of sermons in Tamilnadu. These absurdities have no place in Quran discourses. People with Arabic knowledge, devotion to Guru and faith in God should come to field. They shall guide and direct the society. Strong heart is needed. Only four or five men may attend in the initial days. But the preacher should come with the preparation of facing a crowd of one lakh. If the weekly sermons continue without break, Insha Allah, very soon Badr Sahabas can be identified. Offspring of Khulafaye Rashideen will become visible. Ashabu Sufaa will emerge. Preacher shall march ahead.

Karooniyath

Weekly Speech at Tableeghi Markaz, Tolichowki, Hyderabad
Published in Muslim Murasu, May 2012

Man distances himself from God when he commits sins. He comes near God by doing good deeds. Taking mistakes lightly can create serious problems. Prophet said, “Reduce sins; death will be easy. Avoid loans and live an easy life”.
Any activity should be done according to commands of God. Otherwise it is not religion, neither will the person taste success in this world or the next. If merchandise is done bearing in mind the commands of God, it means being religious. Karoon also was a merchant. He did not earn any good reward. Ruling, parenting, everything when done according to Will of God will earn us good rewards.
Singular purpose in life is to please God. God will be pleased with man when man is pleased with God. We should be satisfied both during good health and illness. We should be calm even under distressful situations. We should find contentment in palaces and huts alike.
Allah says about Sahabas in Quran. ‘raliyallahu anhum va ralu anhu’. God was pleased with them because they were pleased with God.
Man is subservient to the favors he receive. But he is not subservient to the One who gives him all favors. He is not obedient to God who gives him good health. He does not pleases God by maintaining calm during distress.
Once Abdul Khadir Jeelani (rah) was ill. He prayed to God, “Give me love for this sickness”. Prophet has told, “He has got the pleasure of Imaan; he is content that Allah is his Rab”. Allah trains you in palaces and hut houses. He tests you in good positions and in unemployment. One who has neared God through his illness has achieved success. Healthy people are not the only successful people. Hadees continues, “He is content that Islam is his religion; he is content that Muhammad (sal) is his Prophet”. Following Sunnath after this will become easy. Life will be filled with love for Imaan.
Imaan will alleviate jealousy. Jealousy is a fire that harms health and goodness. An animal was creating problems in a city. King told to show a mirror in front of the animal. Animal died from the shock of its own reflection.
‘nahnu kasamna baynahum maishathan’ - ‘We have distributed provisions among them”. We cannot understand God’s wisdom from our limited knowledge. This faith will render humility. A person will think about God’s inquiry before spending even a penny.
This is not my money. This is not my children. These are given by God to me. ‘My’, ‘mine’ concepts are dangerous. What is Karooniyath? It is not just fighting with Moosa (alai). It is claiming ownership over God’s favors. ‘innama uthithuhu alaa ilmin indhi’ - ‘I earned it through my knowledge’. Surah 28, Kasas, verse 78. Quran has mentioned one Karoon. There are many Karoons in each period. They don’t accept Allah’s share in each Nihmath.
Once Umar Bin Abdul Ajees (rah) said: We won’t be misers. We won’t spend extravagantly. We will spend according to the need.
Punishment is there for Haraam. Inquiry is there for Halaal.
Imaan will stop us from parsimony and extravagance. An Imaam says that frugality in four matters can bring poverty in the world to an end: vehicle, house, garments and marriage. Prophet told Ayisha (rali), “Love objects only as much as a traveler will do; don’t consider a dress as old until it gets torn; don’t sit with rich people”. Ayisha (rali) used to donate thousands of Dinars, but she won’t have anything to eat for Iftaar.
You have to be grateful when you have money. Helping poor is the appropriate gratitude for this. When you have good health, you have to help sick ones. Way to show gratitude differs according to the favor you enjoy. Dimensions will change according to money, health and youth. Youngsters should help weak ones.
Egypt scholar, Muhammad Marosi (rah) says, “My annual expenditure is 200 Dirham”. He will think twice before spending for personal needs. Personal expenditures can be reduced. Once government raised his salary to 20000 Dirhram. But his lifestyle did not change. He spent only 200 Dirham for personal needs. He used to donate to students and widows. Don’t increase your expenditure above your income. This is the advice from Auliyas.
Taste for tongue will remain for one hour. New dress will be joyous for one day. New home can be enjoyed for a year. Don’t fall into loans and interests for these perishable pleasures. Don’t waste your life. Some have reached older age paying interests and not paying Jakath. Now also they are not worried or feared about returning and facing God.
A shop owner asked his Sheikh, guru, to sit in this bill counter and pray. His Hajrath told, “Even if Jibreel (alai) sits here and prays and all the angels say Ameen, there won’t be Barakath in your shop; you are running this money out of usury money. You are declaring war”.
When Nijamudin Auliya is offered to eat something during Iftar, he will say, “There are many famished people in Delhi. How can I eat to full stomach”. Sheikh Fareedudin Shakarkanj (rah) was guru of Nijamudin Auliya (rah). Once Nijamudin gave some fruits to him. Fruits were tasteless. Some salt was given. Fareedudin said that this food reeks of extravagance. Nijamudin told that he borrowed salt. Guru warned him, “A person borrowing for pleasure cannot be God’s beloved”.
Prophet never had two gravies while eating. Once Abdulla Ibn Umar brought two gravies. Umar (rali) said, “How can I face Rasoolullah. My lifestyle has grown above his lifestyle”.
We should love Prophet. We should love his language, style, social system and his Ummath. We have to love what he loved and hate what he hated.
Amar Bin Aas (rali) once chided a companion who was speaking in Persian language. He asked him not to use the language of fire worshipers. Umar (rali) once wrote a letter. “Learn Arabic. That is the language of your religion”. Rasoolullah said, “Don’t talk like Ajam. That will bring hypocrisy in your hearts”.
Sahabas used to talk other languages. But they will convert the language according to tenets of Islam. They will not accept a language with its ancient superstitious ways. Proverbs, examples and metaphors will be refined and then they will use that language. Sahabas never accepted backward cultures and habits.
Rasoolullah used to exhibit Mojisa. Once he was speaking to a Negro child in Habashi language. “Haja Sana”. It means beautiful in Habashi language. Once his companion was having pain in stomach. Prophet inquired about his health in Persian language.
Sahabas used other languages to spread Islam. Isha was called as ‘Athama’ in rural areas. Prophet asked them to call as Isha. Forefinger was called ‘sabbaba’, cursing finger. Prophet told that to be called as ‘sabbaha’, ‘finger for tasbeeh’. Prophet told not to say ‘raina’, but say ‘unzurna’. Once a companion was greeting a newly wed couple in ignorant way. Prophet correct him and told him to greet as, ‘let Allah bring Barakath in your lives’.
You cannot inculcate religion in your life without good personal contacts. Religiosity will not come without good relations. It has never happened and will never happen. Religiosity means tenderness, good character, proper mind, internal and external aspects, religion in solitude and in crowd, controlling anger and praying for others.
This cannot be learnt from CDs or books. I am not underestimating value of pen. This Ummath writes more books. Allah will weigh ink of scholars along with blood of martyrs. Allah has made scholars of this Ummath write huge books.
Jews took their Holy Scripture with fervor and dared to kill their Prophets. They ventured to understand books without help of Aalims. They got entangled in deceptions. They were commanded not to fish in Saturdays. They laid nets on Fridays and retrieved them on Sundays as workaround. They rejected God’s command. Fat from camel was forbidden. They extracted oil from it. They made Haraam as Halaal.
Downside of Christians was that they celebrated their priests and ignored Holy Book. They took priests as Gods. Priests can make anything as forbidden or permissible.
Merit of Muslim Ummath is that they know the importance of both the Book and the Prophet who brought the Book. They learnt Deen through peers. Religion is not available only in books. Friendship will impart religion.
Allah has sent many Prophets without books. But He has never sent a book without Prophet.
Deen cannot be understood without proper contacts. Jibreel (alai) personally taught first part of Namaaz to Prophet. Next day he came and illustrated final part of Namaaz. There is no alternative to personal contact.

People Are Leaving Religion

Speech by Maulana Khaleel Ahmad, Shaikul Jamia Nizamia, at 'Fitna-e-irtadad aur roktham' event organized at Mugalpura playground, Hyderabad

Irtadad means to leave Islam. Those who do this are committing a serious mistake. The ownership will fall on the neighboring people as well. This is a grave sin and punishment will be severe. All efforts should be made to bring them back to the fold of Islam.
How did this problem crop up in the first place. Our houses have become devoid of Islamic education. We consider it enough to teach Ozhu (ablution), prayer and Quran recitation. Essence is not taught. Our children do not know commands of Islam. They won’t be able to face the upcoming storm.
We want our children to become engineers and doctors. Islam has no objection to seek higher and better positions. First make your children as Muslims. Then you can make arrangements for their degrees and postings. We cannot wallow in ignorance and protect Islam. This is electronic age where knowledge has sweeping influence.
Our children come under various influences when they go out. They see many scenes and are impacted in many different ways. Only two or three TV channels are helpful to us. All other channels are enemies to our religion. There will be adverse impact from repeatedly watching them. We should first pay attention towards this. Book releases and meetings are not the solution. Darkness is in the house. Disease has penetrated deep. Applying ailment on the skin is not going to cure. Shaitan has entered our houses.
Lack of modesty has become one important reason for Irtadad. Our culture was considered medieval. But they are panicking when they see their children straying. People trapped in other cultures are in distress. ‘bepardagi’ (indecency) leads us to sins. But now as a development of this age, it is taking us to Kufr also.
People have become very greedy. Lakhpathi wants to become Crorepathi. They turn their backs to Islam when the go up the ladder and incline towards Kufr.
Missionaries do not go to rich people. They target poor. They take advantage of poverty, implement some welfare schemes and convert them.
To stop this fitna, parents should first prepare themselves. Houses should be set right. The children for whom you toiled day and night are becoming prey for others. Seminars and public events are not endpoints. This is only to instill right spirit. People against Islam are working all 12 months. They do not waste time in seminars and meetings. This is age of nuclear weapons. Old pistols are not sufficient to manage onslaught by modern equipments. Appropriate use should be made of TV, print media, movements, communication devices. Cultural deterioration should be urgently arrested.

Three Are Responsible For Cultural Deterioration

Speech by Maulana Khaja Shareef, Jamia Nizamia, at 'Fitna-e-irtadad aur roktham' event organized at Mugalpura playground, Hyderabad
Published in Muslim Murasu, April 2012

In earlier times, people were attracted by good character of Muslims and they embraced Islam. But now, Muslims are renouncing Islam. This does not happen usually. This is a fitna (problem) of this age. Allah brought Muslims to spread religion. But Muslims are now leaving Islam.
Aalim, family members and people of the neighborhood should share the responsibility. Consider there is a murder in a neighborhood. According to Fiqh rules, if the murderer is not identified within a specified time, then all the inhabitants in that area will be held accountable and made to pay fine. This is called kasana. A murderer with a cruel mentality has stayed among you and you allowed him to commit this grave crime. The crime will belong to entire people of that Muhalla.
Islam spread through good character. Rasoolullah toiled hard for 13 years in Mecca. Then he continued in Medina for six more years. In this 19 years, 4000 or 5000 people had accepted Islam. Hudaibiya agreement was signed in Hijri 6. Ten years of peace was announced. Islam is not religion for war. In these peaceful years, people of Mecca traveling to Sham used to stay in Muslim houses in Medina. They witnessed lifestyle of Muslims. Muslims did not sermonize in this period. But their character was impressive. The way they behaved with parents, good character of wife, showing hospitality to even harshest enemies attracted people of Mecca. Fifty thousand people newly joined Islam in these two years.
Khaira Ummath is needed for everyone. Each creature needs you. “kuntum khaira ummathi ukhrijath linnaas”. Now situation has changed. Muslims are moving away from Islam.
Imam Malik (rah) collected some rare Hadees. Solution to this problem is found in book Muatha. There is no new way for Islah (reformation) of people. People can be reformed only in the way that was used to reform earlier communities. There is no other way. ‘Lai yaslaha’.
Practical model; amali tadbeer. Quran describes many societies that have gone astray and communities that were reformed. If all that can be put in one line, we need role models. If there are role models, people will overcome obstacles and come close. We don’t have models in our houses. There is not even a conducive atmosphere. You have to become role models in your houses. I hear that in some families in Hyderabad, parents and children sit together and watch vulgar films. We have to prepare for Janasa if this is true. Parents should discipline their children if they do wrong. Inna lillahi.
Parents have become reason for Irtadad. Shaitan has vowed to stray us. Surah 7, Al Ahraf, verse 16. I will sit on your straight path. ‘la akvudanna lahum sirathal mustakeem’. They love and spread indecency. Surah 24, Noor, verse 19 – allazeena yuhiboona an tasheehal fahishath.

Give Guru's Share

Muslim Murasu, April 2012

Guru, master, ustad or sheikh is where one can learn the art of life. The need for this training will be felt every second in life. Saints can impart this training in a brief face to face meeting with him. Remaining life will be a continuation of this learning process. One can continue to receive benefits even from distance. But the prerequisite is that guru and student should travel on the same straight path. Intention should be same. Target, objective, plan and direction should be one. Sacred Text will give its attestation to the holiness of guru. Allah, Rasool, Ameer, this order of authority cannot be broken. One leads to another.
Human mentality is spending lakhs of rupees to learn engineering, medicine, communication, commerce and IT. But they are reluctant to formally learn Taqwa. One can receive wisdom from appreciating experts of Sacred Book. Hearts will be cultured to take and face vicissitudes of life, losses and gains, with same spirit. Restlessness, yearning, distress, rage and panic will be controlled. Money can do many things, but cannot give life. A complete guru can do wonders, miracles that money can’t. The religious campuses that we see today will turn out to be consequences of discourses, preaching, prayers and suggestions of a saint. Guidance makes good hearts.
A religious person should first understand the importance of guru, sheikh or ustad. Ameersaab has been given authority. He stays in close contact with God and spends his time in worship. He is fountain of wisdom. His prayers will be answered. He lives disciplined, noble life. Administration of earth has been given in his charge. He displays no selfishness. Sheikhs are working in every Muhalla, district, state and direction. It is compulsory duty, farl ein, to honor them. Rule is simple. Hearing their speeches will decrease material desires and turn our attention towards afterlife. Confusions and doubts in our hearts will be removed. He will preach goodness. He has the capacity to check trappings of Shaitan.
People who have benefited from Sheikh’s preaching should not be satisfied with ten rupees or fifty rupees donation. Good guidance is priceless. Donations shall be liberal. It will bring Barakath. Muslim society is lagging in honoring and keeping Shaikhs in high esteem. Those whose life has changed by discourses should sacrifice some time. One third of income and half or a quarter of the wealth shall be donated. Donating to guru is essential for the growth of religion. Money and wealth can be donated to receive wisdom of Quran. Sacred book shall not be given for free.

Increasing Religious Festivals

Muslim Murasu, February 2012

People in Tamilnadu are hassled with thousands of problems. Religious messages are coming as tender breeze to their hearts. Rationalism and materialism held sway in recent years. Inflation and skyrocketing real estate prices are excruciatingly painful. Elders are not respected. Television and films engage youngsters. Nuclear families are on the rise. No one knows any escape from heart-wrenching problems. Spirituality, advices, religious festivals and meditation programs prove to be beneficial and curative. Religious aversion is giving way to religious fervor. New religious centers are sprouting cutting across all religions. People having trust in God will not be forsaken. Passion for religion is again starting to dominate in the hearts of Tamil people.

Religiosity, religious preaching and spending from different religious sections should alleviate poverty. Ancient elders created lakes and planted trees. They constructed community halls and feeding centers for the needy. In those days, religious following guaranteed protection to human lives. Religious sentiment should not stop with slogan, zikr and shouting in amplified speakers. Poverty should not have its ugly dance where religious center is installed. Helping poor will be regarded as helping God. Religion should guarantee right to live for every creature under the sky.
Tamilnadu should lead the way in India. Energetic and passionate spiritual lectures beamed from Gujarat are reaching Tamilnadu through private television channels. It was a heartening sight to see Muslim women, unmindful of even severe cold, participating to hear spiritual lectures by scholars who came from north, recently in 12 days Milad celebrations organized in the central part of the capital city of Tamilnadu. Christians, for their part, are taking advantage of private television slots and improving their standard. Tamilnadu with its thriving spirituality will surely ascertain livelihood rights. God will shower His blessings.

Quality Improvement Of Spiritualists

Muslim Murasu, December 2011

A new stranger will come to Prophet. A brief conversation will explain ideology and character, clarify any doubt and selection will be done within a few minutes. He will be shown a companion of Prophet and asked to spend three days in his company. This was quality control under direct supervision. Pure, perfect, exemplary spiritualists were produced this way in those days. People who followed rose to exalted heights. They were successful in this life and the next life.
Today religious flag bearers are seeking respect from believers on the basis of M.A., Ph.D., English knowledge and modern attire. Language fluency can be helpful to an extent. But that won’t bring revolution of any sort. Degrees and university researches can give respect. But it won’t impart humility or austerity. Materialistic thrust, desire or its introduction in any form is totally antagonistic to religious mission.
Spiritualists are noble people chosen by God. Their identification is austerity, courage, relentless service and honesty. They are direct representatives of God. They are committed to the welfare of people.
Religious ritualist is different from a religious spiritualist. They are two different categories, their mandates are different. Ritualistic mission is to guard rites and rituals. A person who speaks in blaring tone on a Friday afternoon in front of thousand believers with a half-hidden note in his hand cannot qualify for a religious spiritualist.
Seven days of life, its experiences and teachings, achievements and principles, will radiate spontaneously and explode in twenty minutes. This will easily attract audience to him. Offspring will be produced within few minutes, few days, few weeks and few months.
People today mistake ritualists for spiritualists. Religious spiritualist is one who has sky and earth, land and ocean under his control. He represents God. His position is exalted and his heights are unimaginable.
He constantly and all the time converses and whispers to God. He prays for all his needs only to his Creator. He remains balanced during good and bad times. He is devoid of wailing and screeching and exuberant celebrations. He qualifies for a spiritualist.
Building is not needed. A porch will do just fine. Apt words and a God-conscious person is produced.
It is possible to have quality improvement training for spiritualists. But there are conditions. It takes additional honesty, additional hard work, additional piety and additional courage to produce another spiritualist.

Wise Is He Who Remembers Death

Weekly speech at Masjide Amina, Tolichowki, Hyderabad
Published in Muslim Murasu, November 2011

Allah promises in Quran many a bounty and rich rewards in return for Imaan (Faith in God) and good deeds. Heaven and huge graces are promised. It is very essential to set right each activity in life along with Faith in God.
Faith is not of the same standard. There are various levels of Faith.
“Ya ayyuhallajina aamanu aaminu billahi” – “O you who have believed! Believe in Allah”.
Those who have not eaten can be called to eat. But we won’t hear calls for people who have had their food to have food. But God calls upon those who have brought Faith to bring Faith. There is difference.
1. Maujuda Imaan – Faith that we have
2. Matlooba Imaan – Faith that is required
There is huge difference between the two. Standard of Imaan will improve as and when its demands are met. Imaan will go weak if its requirements are not addressed.
Imaan that the companions of Prophet displayed was sublime and outstanding. Allah says, “Aaminu kama aamanannaas” – Have faith like Sahabas. They accepted that God is Master and we are His servants. They did not reject or turn away from any of His commands. They understood the meaning and purpose of life as worship.
In today’s world, we have to give thousand explanations for why some things are haraam (forbidden). Still people do not pay heed. Companions of the Prophet took this world as an examination hall. This is not place for reward. Recompense will be in the next world. They carried out all the commands with humility. Imaan will penetrate in life if we are serious and work on it. We got Imaan as a result of missionary works of elders.
We can know the standard of one’s Imaan by looking his deeds. Any element in vegetation and natural world proclaims the class it belongs to. Leaf, bud, seed or branch of neem tree clearly establishes that it is from neem tree. The same way Kalima should reflect in each aspect and facet of our lives. We should be known to be people of Kalima from our concerns and thoughts. Our character should emulate our Prophet. If we are kind and merciful, others will know that we follow our Prophet. We should strive for this.
Missionary zeal should not be incomplete. We will accept a house as fully constructed when everything including foundation, wall, ceiling, doors and windows, electricity, sanitation and water facilities and carpentry are in place. Then we will be prepared to move into such house. Islam has completely vanished from all facets of our lives. But still we contend that we have Imaan.
We should do worship when it is time for worship. And we should display sincere honesty in our dealings and businesses. By accepting our servitude and sincerely carrying out God’s wishes, our lives will turn for the better.
One Sahaba narrates – Ten of us went to the Prophet. One of us asked who is wise? Prophet replied that one who remembers death often and prepares for it is the wise person.
No one can stay permanently in this world. Moomin (faithful) should believe there is a life after death. That is the biggest challenge. Other challenges that we face in our day-to-day lives are insignificant. We have come to this world with a fixed time to return. We have two options - either to live extravagant life or lead a simple and humble life. One who gorges on food and one who eats little, both will have to taste death. Death is certain. We have to think in which condition and position are we going to return.
In this world, one can commit crime in one country and hide in another country. But there is no escape in Allah’s kingdom. Only virtuous character, best behavior, lofty attitude and purity in worship can help us. First trial in the next world will be about our dealings and exchanges. In the weight balance of deeds, it is aqlaq (character) that will have highest proportion. Character will be valued a lot. A good person should stay with his family.
There are severe decrees pertaining to character and behavior. Misappropriation of property of others means Imaan is void. Once Prophet repeated thrice that he is not a Moomin. This severe diktat was about he from whom his neighbor do not feel safe. He cannot be a Moomin. It is the responsibility of Moomin to assure safety and security to his neighbor. We cannot claim to be religious just by following two or three precepts. This is incomplete religion. We are careful about dress and food. But we do not pay any attention to our character or behavior.
Let us put our earnest efforts towards Kalima, Ibadath, Ilm, Zikr and Ikraam. Namaz (prayer) teaches us worthy lessons. Do not see here and there, listen only to Imaam’s commands and tell what should be told and at correct time. Allah says, “Akimi salatha lizikri” – “Establish prayer for My remembrance”.

Use Of Pseudonym

Muslim Murasu, August 2011

It is Muslim tradition to have names of Arabic origin. There are many whose lives come to an end before they understand the meaning of their names. Names are integral to religious identity.
In this globalized world, many foreign businessmen are landing in Chennai and other major Indian cities, establish foothold here and market brands having foreign names. There are many who have names with Sanskrit and north Indian words and still have acquired popular influence among Tamil people. During the period of freedom movement, there were many leaders with Arabic names but fared among the best in patriotism. Hindu name or Tamil worded names are not going to bring all respect and pride. Character is more important. Honesty and hard work will always earn good reputation. Islamic, Arabic names are not an obstacle to popularity. Some Muslims innocently hate their Arabic names. They are shedding their identity. Muslim name becomes important during wedding day and final procession.
No Hindu citizen harbors any hatred towards names in Arabic language. They embrace Muslims with their identity, their ‘Sahib’, ‘bhai’ features. Yet some Muslims bury their faces in shame. Pseudonyms are not needed.
A citizen can live in India with the name given by his parents. This is not prohibited. One need not feel shy about that. Any human being is expected to have patriotic feelings, linguistic sentiments and religious affinities. Day to day activities will bring respect to the name. Nation will accept everyone having talent and unbiased vision. Religious name will not be a hurdle. Indian citizenry joyfully accept religious identities and features. Those supporting changing names are betraying the adherent religion. Such people cannot reach great heights in their related fields. Concealing name smacks of dishonesty. The silly idea that people belonging to a particular religion are dangerous, threat to humanity, betrayer, such ideas can be liberally brushed aside. Making one’s religion proud is self-discipline. Crowd mentality is of no use. People following majority religion are not greats, nor are people belonging to minority religion inferiors. When a Hindu male and a Hindu female come together, a Hindu is born. When a Muslim male and a Muslim female involve in intercourse, a Muslim child is formed.
Good behavior and humane qualities are the only fundamental requirements for an Indian. Let us avoid pseudonyms. Let us make an impact with religious names.

Disappointing Religion-Politics Conflict

Muslim Murasu, July 2011

Governments are more religion-centric in India’s neighboring countries Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia. No one can rule people after opposing, insulting and ignoring religious leadership or leader.
For the past 63 years, western culture has been thrust upon India in the garb of secularism. Graduates from universities in America and London reigned Indian population. Taking cue from revolutionary struggles in Muslim countries, guardians of culture of the land grew in India. Religion, vedas, tradition and ancient wisdom fed through television, media and internet gave new impulse to alternative ideas in the past 20 years. The converging point between religion and politics is being scrutinized.
The group that was desperate for used cigarettes, tea remains and stale food entered political stage and enjoyed luxurious life. Rise of spiritualists rile such people. The day when authority will slip from the hands of politicians and fall under the feet of spiritualist is not very far. Religious leaders can control and streamline politics; there is nothing wrong in it. Religion inspires discipline and softness. It is capable of purifying hearts.
People wait patiently praying for peaceful heart in the aura of religious leaders. Those who make beeline to swanky buildings of politicians are hankering after luxuries. This is the difference. People surrender themselves under graceful feet of religious leaders and willingly donate their properties, wealth and funds. Mind-boggling properties that politician has gathered has come from oppression. It has been accumulated by misuse of police, investigating agencies, income tax office and courts of law. Politician cannot gather wealth without trampling human rights and honesty of fellow citizens.
Spiritual elders who have been in a long and deep slumber, are for the first time passionate for standing against political transgressions. They should disentangle themselves from dance, music festivities, narrating stories and monastic refuge. Slumber of 63 years cannot be shaken off in a few months or few events. Continuous awareness preaching will be beneficial.
Majority of Indians love, respect and adore religion and religious leaders. Lofty qualities of religious stalwarts should guide India. Fraud politician does not have strength to suppress or threaten religious leader. Religious leaders have contact with Divine. They have their throne in the hearts and spirits of people.
The conflict between faith and politics is uncalled for. This will push nation backwards. Politician can administrate nation with honesty. Religious person can control politician with blissful, motherly attitude. It is not possible anymore to stop dominance of religion, religiosity, religious affinity and religion-centric environment.

New Government's Religion Policy

Muslim Murasu, June 2011

Government shows liberal and unilateral intervention in the appointments of chief Kazi in the state, Waqf committee and Haj committee. Four days extra holidays are granted for Muslims working in government offices for first day of Ramzan, shab-e-baraath, lailathul qadr and Mohideen urs. Administrators frenetically rush to convey greetings in media during occasions of Ramzan and Bakridh every year. Leaves are granted to go on holy pilgrimage.
Religion is beneficial to people. It emphasizes good values in life. People, electorate, are looking forward to a government that will give importance to religious preaching. Today individuals and trusts are helping in strengthening religious preaching. Government should set aside 200 crore rupees in its budget for religious preaching.
Exotic culture and western values are spreading among young boys and girls. Government should use Hindu swamijis, Muslim aalims and Christian pastors and try to spread and thrust good values in the state. Religious leaders should be honored in government events and programs and their good advices should be listened to. One hour religious discourse everyday should be made mandatory in schools, educational and research institutions. Student community roaming with single-minded objective of marks is becoming hordes of selfish beasts. Traditions of the land, mercy, kindness, friendliness, respect for parents, elders, guru and teacher are wobbling. Standards are going down. There are hundreds of thousands of engineering, medical, agricultural, media and technological graduates in the state. But the group that pays no attention to people’s welfare and social life is of no use.
Religious life will give eternal peace. Those who have spent more than 10 years in religious institutions, mosques, madrasas, temples and churches in state and district capitals can be leveraged. Religious scholars are living isolated lives. Government should properly honor spiritual people for the spirituality to spread. This will not amount to betrayal of the nation. This will bring down bribe and corruption. Hearts will transform for the better. Constitution allows religious preaching. Crimes are not going to reduce by installing thousands of police, intelligence force or judicial expansion. Religious leaders will herd people to good path with their pleasing advices.
Government can proactively record discourses in religious institutions, weekly Jumaa speeches and buy slots in TV channels and broadcast them live to the audience. Further they can be published in book form and distributed to libraries.

Let Us Call Towards God

Muslim Murasu, May 2011

Difference between God-believers and non-believers is clear, obvious and wide-ranging. A person’s character, nature and style seldom change. What is the discussion point when two persons meet. What is the central focus of their telephone or cellphone conversation. This will provide answers.
Once the meeting or conversation is over, one is engulfed with panic and fear. He is convinced that he is spending his life in wasteful ways. He resolves to earn money atleast in future, buy land, house and jewels by all means. He vows not to forsake a single rupee for others. It is better to be cautious, careful and mindful.
It is anyone’s guess. The person who just visited or conversed on telephone is certainly Shaitan. He is a two-legged beast. In future wherever and whenever he is spotted or heard, it is imperative to pray repeatedly ‘Auzu billahi minashaitan irrageem’ – I seek God’s protection from damned Shaitan. Otherwise, confusion will overpower and create frustration and irritation on everyone. He will create enmity. Even the precious little peace that is leftover in heart will be lost.
On the contrary, 10 minute visit or a few minutes talking on phone with some people strengthens belief in God, Rasoolullah (sal), akhirat and good companions of the Prophet.
Now one can easily understand that the person we are face to face with is God’s disciple.
God sometimes gives advice through human beings. Shaitan empowers worldly desires and selfish attitudes through human beings. It is important to have abilities to identify and differentiate. This is an era dominated by price rise, lust for money, extravagance and raging consumerism. Dhaayis who propound peace of heart, contentment and spiritual discipline will not lose balance and equipoise. To call out towards God is the most important task.
20 human beings do rounds all the time to increase passion for this world. It is imperative to find two such human beings who will incite desire for the next world. Major task for Islamic magazines is to goad human beings back to the path shown by God. The length of the article, the number of pages, words or lines, is not important. Once a person finishes the magazine, thoughts about God should increase in him. Material desires should be removed. Writing should create a simple and stoic surrounding and hearts that are free from worries. Thousands of Shaitans are there to incite lust for duniya. Let us become greats who invite people towards God.

Religiosity Is Paramount

Muslim Murasu, May 2011

Indian tradition is to have faith in religious life. Tamilnadu government is no exception to this. Perarinar Anna pledged ‘there is only one God’ and compromised with faith. We are against Brahminism but not against Brahmins. We don’t oppose religion, but condemn irrational activities happening in the name of religion. Thousand shallow arguments and fickle compromises.
Populist leaders do not have the necessity to brazenly oppose faithful, religious person. In 1968, temples were removed from regional group management and were rendered under Collector’s administration. Today government’s share in growth of religion and religious centers is ascertained through philanthropist award, arranging poojas, temple meals scheme, religious and spiritual holidays, welfare board for rural temple priests, pension scheme for rural priests, temple library and yoga training class and assistance fund for spiritual Tamil books. From 1927, secretaries and Collectors of IAS rank are keenly upholding and nurturing spiritual and religious sensitivities. Temple management, control, administration and maintenance constitute one of the very important responsibilities of the government. Hindu Aranilayathurai is protecting 38,465 temples with abundant care.
Members of assembly and parliament take oath in the name of God. Government grants holidays for regional festivals and religious ceremonies. Government employees are entitled to four days of extra leaves. (R.H) During special religious occasions, they are granted relief for one and a half hour. Government has enlisted pilgrimage sites also under the list of tourist spots. Godly pictures are decorating desks and monitors of higher officers. Mobile ring tones sing Kirtans, Bhajans and Vedic texts. Religious rituals get high priority in the savings of the employees. Temple is the symbol of the state government. State and central governments respect religious feelings of the people.
What is the need for concealment after all these? Government should grant fund for religious preachings. Today it is absolutely necessary to have a separate minister and ministry for the religious preachings. Hindu, Muslim, Christian preachings will help in upholding discipline, honesty and good qualities. Government should allocate ten percent of its revenues for religious preachings.
Hindi TV channel Astha telecasts spiritual preachings round the clock. A similar Tamil TV channel is needed for religious preachings. Religious classes and Vedic explanations will better human beings.

Do Not Reject God’s Blessings

Muslim Murasu, March 2011

There is no human being or creature that has not received God’s blessings. Living in traditional, ancient, age-old India and forgetting God’s blessing is a grave offense. Those who seek additional facilities ignore God. They don’t enjoy the boon that they already experience. Forgetting Nihmath is tantamount to non-belief in God.
One lives without any disease till 50. Another person is plagued with chronic cough and cold. One has two sons. Another is destined with one. One who does not have his own home and carries all his materials from street to street stand defeated by the house owner. But house owner in capital city yearns for additional facility. Heart is turmoiled with surfacial comparison with nearby person. Each person owns God’s blessing in one way or the other. Man does not deserve, but still is engulfed with God’s mercy. One can, on self-introspection, relish and praise God’s mercy. One can melt. First requirement for a devout person is to stop murmurs and reduce griping. This is shameful, repulsive, low quality. Jealousy is unbefitting. One can work hard for additional strength, facility, wealth and material growth. There is nothing wrong about it. But the tranquility already achieved should not be jeopardized. One should seek and find person who gives Nasihat, guidance. Only then the dirt and weakness residing in heart will vanish. Lest one will lose spiritual comfort. Life in hell will start in this life itself and torture. One will have house, job, wife, money, neighbors, son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, healthy body, but still heart will be in turbulence. It will crave for another life and facility. One who has not got good companion, high friendship, good teacher, sweet guide and nice adviser is not fit for God’s blessings. One can pity on them. He is up for terrible loss. Guidance is needed to know the ups and downs in life, tide over it, keep balance, survive and travel further. Of all the blessings bestowed by God, guidance strength is the best. It helps in enjoying God’s mercy. Enjoying countless facilities and still yearning for another dream is rejection of God. God has taken upon himself to forcefully perpetuate his blessings.

Urgent need For Religious Book Penetration

Muslim Murasu, January 2011

People are ready to spend thousands of rupees towards yoga, meditation, physical and mental training in these days of mechanic life. Mental stress and heart diseases are punishing everyone. Due to advent of technical instruments, life is filled with speed and luxury. In the remaining leisure hours, debauchery and spirituality knocks the door. Profane entertainment will cause debased mentality and increase violence and graft. Spirituality is needed as an alternate. 5000-seater auditorium is brim with spiritual discourse. 10 days of Vedic lectures. Distinguished officers and entrepreneurs are at the feet of Guruji. They wander in search of solace. Trusts are hosting deposits of crores of rupees. Man today is in search of spirituality. Books will improve spiritual and peaceful thoughts according to individual’s capacity and mentality. Religious riots will disappear. Police, jails and courts will be rendered needless. Citizens of India will protect their life with self-control and self-discipline. Blissful words and utterances of cautions by Guruji and spiritual elites will lead the hearts. Today slogas from Vedas, Bajans are recorded as mobile ring tones. This indicates increase in hunger for spirituality.

Tricolor national flag and the wheel in its center symbolizes religious message and its necessity. Central and state governments do not spend a penny for the penetration of religion. Religious inclination is important here. Hatred rears high in the name of secularism. Government should allot fund to spread each religion. Religious books can be published. As a start, government can earmark 100 crore rupee each for religious preaching. There is no doubt that people are patronisers, lovers and seekers of religion. There is no need for secularism drama. High officers and ministers have faith in religion. Atheism, rationalism, socialism and anti-religiosity will not work in India. Religiosity has not subsided even after 63 years. Flood of money from individuals is being spent for religious preachings. Here life won’t move on after sidelining religion. Religion is not antithetical to growth in knowledge, progress in different arts, scientific miracles or human rights. In Tamilnadu, government and political parties need votes, support, donation, fund and tax from religious people. But government does not help religious preaching. This is violation of democratic duty. Religious extremism is dangerous. But even a kid, let alone others, will clearly understand the difference between love for religion and religious extremism. 12,000 Muhallas and Jamaaths are pledging for harmonious society. Here government can quickly allot 100 crore rupees for religious books. Constitution will not be a hindrance.
