Maximum Consumption Is Human Nature

Maulana Wahiduddin Khan speech
Published in Muslim Murasu, March 2013

Man stands between heaven and hell. The decisions he makes each moment takes him either towards heaven or towards hell. This will continue until Israfeel (alai) blows the trumpet.
The incident between Adam (alai) and Iblis has been repeated many times in the Quran. Surah Bani Israil, 17, verse 62 – ‘la ahtanikanna zurriyyatahu illa qaleelan’. I will lead most of human beings astray. History tells us that Shaitan has indeed led most of mankind astray. Prophets have shown us the way for heaven. The Quran has preserved the message. Here comes the demonstration.
Eat whatever you wish, but don’t approach this tree. Surah Baqara, 2, verse 35 – ‘wa kulaa minha ragadan haishu shi’tumaa walaa taqrabaa haazihi shajarata’. Adam and Hawwa kept wondering about the tree for many days. One day they ate its fruit. Consuming everything is human nature. Satisfaction is not found in what is available. There is always an urge for the missing things.
Adam and Hawwa desired for the denied fruit. Man is an intellectual creation. Allah has made him to think. His intellect will grow. This includes his spirituality. Going after the unavailable things is misuse of intellect. Materialistic craving should be avoided. Interest shall be shown on intellectual growth. There is nothing wrong in it. Adam (alai) had all opportunities to grow intellectually. But his interest turned materialistic towards one tree. Even kings won’t get everything. Some will be given while some can never be attained. This is the formula for life. Let us be grateful for what we have received and be patient for things that we did not get.
Surah Ibrahim, 14, verse 7 – ‘lain shakartum la azeedannakum’. More will be given if you show gratitude. Surah Dahr, 76, verse 12 – ‘wa jazaahum bimaa sabaroo jannatan wa hareeran’. Heaven and silk garments are the reward for patience. The reason man is sent to earth is to prepare himself to be a fitting candidate for heaven. Surah Taha, 20, verse 76 – ‘zaalika jazaau man tazakkaa’. Heaven is the reward for who purify themselves. Thinking all the time about things that are out of reach will only create tension and restlessness. This will stop intellectual growth.
Seventy Sahabas were killed in Uhud battle. Prophet (s.a.w.s) negotiated and established Hudaibiya agreement. Harping on the death of seventy companions would not have brought peace or settlement.
Uhud battle resulted in loss. This verse descended in this background. Surah Ala Imran, 3, verse 153 – ‘fa ashaabakum gamman bigammin likailaa tahzanu alaa maa faatakum walaa maa asaabakum’. You were beset will loss after loss so that you don’t grieve over your losses or what befalls you. Re-planning is more important than grieving over the loss of seventy companions. Peace was negotiated with the murderers. This ensured permanent growth.
Man can move ahead in constructive side or move towards destruction. Surah Ahzaab, 33, verse 4 – ‘maa jaalallahu li rajulin min qalbaini’. Allah has not made two hearts for any man. Heart will focus on one thing, either positive or negative. Be happy with what you have. Intellectual growth will get attention.

Let Us Purify Our Hearts

'Padinaru kavanagar Thirukkural' Rama Kanaga Subburatinam speech on Mega TV
Published in Muslim Murasu, October 2012

People are not ready to do anything. They don’t forfeit their aggression, rage, adamancy, anger, hatred or stinginess. Change is expected in life. I want to rise, my distresses should be over, I should be free from bodily and mental pains. But they are not ready to change even after coming to saints.
I want to see sunrise, but I will see towards west. It is impossible. There is defect in the system. We can’t stick to wrong ideas and expect to succeed. There is a particular mathematical formula to find surface area of a circle. Each problem has an associated formula. Only that formula will help. Every problem has a particular solution. Other solutions won’t fit. Change won’t come from reading holy books, having appetite for good books, going to training classes unless you have the will to change. Change should come from within.
Only then we can attain the success that we desire. What is stopping us? It is Maya (illusion). My heart is a big crowd. Forefathers lie in the heart. All creditors from the past are hidden there. They won’t leave unless we settle their loans.
Whom is our heart stuck with. Our success and failure depends on it. Maya that lies within us should be dispelled. Devils can stay in the heart as well as saints. Is devil having control over heart or godly people. If devil is having the control, bad qualities will not go away. Rage and aggression won’t subside. If saints are there, they will keep heart from getting corrupted. There will be clarity and glow in life. Some people host devil and saints in turns. Good things and bad things will happen alternatively for them. Good things will happen when saints influence. When Shaitan enters, decline will start. Growth will be stunted. There won’t be any continued improvement.
We have to be careful about who is influencing us. Bad activities will vanish if saints are appreciated and given the reign. All fundamental changes will start appearing when they dominate.
No person can operate his system entirely on his own. CDs and floppies have to be inserted for support. No one can claim that he is living entirely with his own intellect. We need the support of many saints. Expert help will be required. We have to earn their attention. Energy does not get destroyed. It is conserved. When a scientist dies, his body will decompose, but his genius will stay. Knowledge of an entrepreneur will not go away even after his death. It will float above the earth like songs floating on a disk. They will descend as ideas into the minds that need them. The ideas that we conceive are not our own ideas. We shouldn’t think like that. A speech does not belong solely to the speaker. Experts will help on the subject that we desire to dwell on. They will be invisible and helping. This is called ‘Asareeri’. It is talking without body. The ideas that they express without body are grasped by our bodies. If we grasp trivial things, then output also will be trivial.
If we keep seeking lofty people, then the ideas that we deliver also will be lofty. Maya will take us towards worse things. God will help for the dominance of saints. But you have to give space. Your approach should not be to open doors for beggars and shut them on near and dear ones.
We have been given the right. It is our decision whether to harbor Maya or to be hospitable to saints. It is our choice. Key is with us. We shall decide whom to let in. Saints will help if we strive for ascension.

Baiyath - Zenith Of Faith In God

Muslim Murasu, September 2012

‘Guru-Sishya’ tradition is part of India’s ancient heritage. God, Prophet, Guru command respect. Holy Book approves this notion. Saints take oath from spiritual students through Baiyath, holding their hands. Baiyath is needed to become member of the spiritual family. It is a pledge not to involve in sinful and evil activities. Murid (spiritual student) should join his hands with that of Sheykh (teacher) and take this pledge. Nothing should be considered equal or partner to God. All needs should be addressed only to God. Creations, materials in this world have no capacity to help or harm on their own. Loss and gain are from Allah. Entire day should be spent in the remembrance of God. Zikr (remembrance) should be present in each breath. This is Baiyath. Guru, Sheykh, Ustad, Pirzada, Vappa, Allahvappa, Thaika Vappa, Sarkar, Ameersaab, these words refer to elders in spiritual tradition. We surrender physically and mentally to those experienced in God’s message and learn spirituality. Only an expert in Quran and Hadees can be fit for Sheykh honor. This title won’t suit incomplete pretends and mere advisers. Only those who seek and search will get right Peer Saab. Otherwise, Shaitan will lead.
Tamil translations of Quran and Hadees are available in market. It is not possible to become faithful servant of God by reading this. It is essential to find someone who has immersed his life in Quran and Hadees teachings and succeeded. His words will kindle the heart. Materialistic craving will subside. There will be more concern for pure earnings. Lies will vanish. Wasteful spending will stop. A life conscious of oncoming death will become a reality. A tranquil heart unyielding to panic will be the gift. Ruh, soul, will begin to shine. Excessive affection and attachment towards family will give way. The scene of lying alone in graveyard will guide Murid’s life. Going forward, only goodness for all creatures will radiate from him. Zikr Manjil or Raatib will be conducted on Thursday or Saturday evening to cultivate the heart. Sitting in group and involving in meditation and reciting God’s name loudly will change the hearts. Some minutes in the morning time can be spent in solitude with head hanging down and meditating about God hidden within us. Muraqabah. Murid should compulsorily follow all commands and precepts in Islam. Sheykh will give Murid to girls and ladies by holding a handkerchief. It is impossible to succeed in life without realizing the Supreme Being hidden in everything and operating everything. This is Baiyath concept. Prophet preached this for eleven years, stressed upon it, practiced it and taught it.
