(This is translation of an article that appeared in Muslim Murasu December 2010)
Soldiers in army protect the country at its frontiers. They do their job round the clock in snowy mountains, deserts and in middle of seas. They make their camps and tents in the vicinity of their job. In the interior, government machinery takes responsibility for the governance for six crore Tamilians. 10 lakh employees are on the roll. Government entrusts them with budgeted money. Government employs one person for every 60 Tamilians.
Portfolios of ministers are shifted. Minister for forest becomes minister for information technology all of a sudden. Minister for backward classes takes the wheel for health care sector. Minister for Petroleum is seated in the ministry for Panchayats in the middle of the night. There is no correlation between the portfolio that a minister holds, the degree he has aquired and the expertise in the field. Serving the government is the bottom line. End result should be the benefit of the society.
Government employee should be shifted across departments. He or she should not occupy the post with a tenant or owner attitude. One gets employed in the government without any general knowledge. Only requisites are to have garnered a degree from one of the sundry colleges that operate under a tree and to have registered in the employment office.
Crores of rupees, authority and management will be in his refuge. Road, education, transport, birth, death and caste certificates, distribution of food, water tax, land tax, approvals for construction, economic loans and trade permits of 60 Tamilians lie under the feet of such employee. For all the facilities they seek, Tamilians should go on their knees, beg, please, satisfy, gratify and amuse these employees in whatever possible way.
A government employee does not know or need to know the count of his colleagues in his department, budget outlay, and money spent, name of the minister, name of the principal secretary, his or her educational qualifications, efficiency and tour itinerary; full salary at the end of every 30 days. Employees in private firms undergo special training every year and at every stage. Transferring files indiscriminately and dilly-dallying are the only qualifications needed for a government employee. A government employee does not reside in the neighborhood of the job. Instead he asks the workplace to be situated near his house. This destroys government funds. Some districts and Taluks see abundance of employees and the situation is opposite in some other districts. Life of Tamilians is wobbling because of choking shackles by the government. One cannot see any certificate without earning the signature of government employee; income will be blocked. Employees who inexplicably sit on files should be dismissed. Raids should be conducted on those employees who deposit more than 8000 rupees per month. Government service that does not enrich competency but only yields luxuries should be put under chronic scrutiny.

Navodaya in Muhalla

Central government conceived Navodaya schools in 1986 per national policy on education. Objective was to impart quality education to students in states and prepare them with a national outlook. Central government committee took upon itself the responsibility of funding. Boys and girls can reside and learn. An autonomous body under Ministry of Human Resource Development will supervise it.
Tamilnadu rejected Navodaya. State government did not grant 25 acres of land. Hindi is a mandatory subject. Central government promises to spend 2 crore rupees per year in the interest of the students from rural areas. Students in Tamilnadu do not have a grasp of Tholkappiam, Purananuru, Thirukkural or any Sangham literature. Neither are they conversant or fluent in English. On account of hatred towards Hindi, they lost north Indian contact and the benefits therein.
Today north Indian businessmen and laborers have occupied Tamilnadu, particularly Chennai and other tier-1 and tier-2 cities. A look into the names of the owners of the multi-storeyed buildings over the past 20 years will make the point clear. State government that holds Tamil in high respect should candidly release a list of the names of the owners and shareholders of enterprises that yield an income of more than 100 crore rupees. Ardent Tamilians will then understand how the cry for Classic language has led to the rise of Marvadis.
Muslim Muhallas have been languishing in education. Navodaya schools, functioning on the three-language formula, that are generously funded by Central government should be opened in Muslim Muhallas. State government should shed its proud attitude, and should be forthcoming in giving approvals. This will enable minorities to aquire education of national competence; this will brighten their lives.
The policy of globalisation declared in 1992 by the then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao destroyed the north Indian, south Indian divide. New enterprises with thousands of crores of rupees of investment have been created in Tamilnadu. Working class from backward states like Orissa and Bihar are reaping benefits from the industrial development in Tamilnadu. Grandsons and granddaughters of office bearers of Dravidian parties are learning Hindi. Tamilians, particularly rural people, are declined of the right to learn Hindi for the past 45 years. Central government supports and nurtures Hindi. Language fanaticism that prevailed in 1965 in Tamilnadu is no more there. Political alliance has doused the aggression over Hindi language. Tamil leaders have acquired huge money and media power and merchandise growth under the blessing, intimacy and aegis of Hindi leaders. Tamil leaders have no righteousness to obstruct, object, reject or decline Navodaya Hindi schools. Atleast for the benefit of Muslims, Navodaya should be permitted in Muhalla.

Modern Hyderabad

Spirituality and philosophy are inseparable from the basic makings of India. A group of Pakistani artists steeped in spiritual music paid a visit to Hyderabad. The themes of God’s power, intimacy between God and man, uncertainty of this world, decay of body, spiritual discipline resonated in the songs. It was devoid of noisy English, western instruments; only one or two instruments of the land.
Lyrics was heart-warming and soul stirring, filled with classic high qualities and words that are exclusive for Urdu, exhibiting authentic literary authority that is untranslatable or impossible to be taken into any other language in the world. Ghazal, qawwal, naath, geeth, shama, gaana and an entry fee of three thousand rupees testify the domination of Urdu language. Hindus constituted majority of the audience. The sacredness of the prophet was the central theme in many songs. Burqa clad women along with their families filled the gathering. National border and differences between the countries stood defeated in front of the richness of the language. Only talent, interest, liking for literature, and humane quality reigned high in the hall. That was Andhra Pradesh foundation day. Newspapers carried proud advertisement from Chief Minister of 35000 crore rupees of foreign investment; a further 40000 crore rupees of investments were lined up in the coming weeks.
Hyderabad is a densely populated city in South India. Muhammad Quli Qutub installed this city on the banks of Musi River in 1591. Spread across 650 kilometer, this city houses 63 lakh people. 55 percent Hindus, 41 percent Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and Jains live peacefully. Terrorist hidden in Hyderabad, bombs unearthed, media is perpetuating such fake news and distorted facts with regularity. But the visit of group of artists of spiritual music from Pakistan was warmly appreciated by English dailies; they published interview.
The absolutely peaceful city sees development of centres of information technology, biotechnology, high-tech instruments and foreign funded institutions. Hyderabad is an exemplary city for Hindu-Muslim harmony. The people of Hyderabad have put an end to the false fictitious imaginations of Pakistan as being synonymous with repulsion, vandalism, terrorism, extremism, aggressive army, culture of ammunition and arrogant fundamentalism. The inhabitants of Hyderabad are continually advancing literature,
language, denial of westernism, music of the land and spiritual qualities. 30 lakh Muslims residing in Hyderabad are champions of religious harmony, it cannot be denied, they are exemplary citizens of modern India.

Need for public hanging

Strong arguments against capital punishment are finding their place among learned people. Increasing acts of crimes are posing a backlash to Gandhian values. There should be re-interpretation of Ahimsa, hanging, tolerance, forgiveness, life sentence, extension of custody, anticipatory bail, weak witnesses and witness-turned-hostile. Rape and murder of minor girl, kidnap and murder, murder in riot, chasing and killing in full public view, these only serve to swell the cases; party time for lawyers; more business for magazines and private media firms.
Largest constitution in the world; designed after 3 years of day and night hardwork of a law genius. 100 loopholes in the garb of amendments are introduced to gratify the desires of the rulers. New laws; no one has the courage to implement them.
There is a need for a public gallows in the bustling center of Chennai, Anna Salai. Six thousand criminals rob the peaceful life of six crore Tamilians. Gangs that kill for money are swelling fast; civilised society stands by as onlookers. Court, politician, assembly, media and police, each one is blaming the other. God created human life; man has no right to take another’s life. Those who recklessly kill others should not be allowed to live with impunity. Human rights activists raise petulant, silly, childish arguments. Capital punishment should become a practice; no other go. Anyone can kill anyone else; only need to weaken the witness; all that is needed is to take care of court expenditures and police station demands. Easily in a matter of few weeks, they can raise their collar and walk out with their heads high.
Today’s situation rife with corruption and bribery adds to the comfort of ruthless criminals. Murderers should be handed out punishments within few days. Gallows will help to protect average people seeking peace. When few people murder and go scott-free in a city, this will create cowards in other part of the society. Only hanging can be the fitting reward to beastly murders. There is no need for prolonging the case for months together, adjournment and reversal of witnesses. Murderers should be openly hanged and strangled to death every week amid a public gathering. To kill evil people is the practical wisdom for all times.

Peace honored by people
(This is translation of article published in Muslim Murasu November,2010)
India has transitioned on many levels between 1992 and 2010. The direction of youngsters is differing. The commercial interest of foreign investors investing billions of dollars is reigning high; peace will be their dominion hereafter. Whereas once life went smooth with 10000 rupees per month, these days 50000 rupees fall short. Petrol diesel prices are hiked five times a year. One lakh is sufficient to build or buy a house; now 50 lakh does not offer solace. Food, cloth, shelter, there is fight even for basic needs. Government employment has completely gone down. Private firms are grabbing qualified, healthy, educated youngsters. The reach of private television has increased 100 times. Vulgar dance, entertainment, cinema, round the clock useless games are punishing young hearts of India. Experts and elites decline the need for nationality, religion and language. The position of laymen is uncertain; there are no guiding leaders. Because of oft-changing electoral alliances, it has become impossible to believe parties for Mosque-Mandhir issue. Politics is headed and steered towards black money and limitless power.
Moodharinar Rajaji Rajagopalachariar writes on the well being of the State: To fear of extremism, to hide, to compromise, to assume this as success, to deviate from frontal struggle, to deflect will result in abject failure. The benefit of freedom is now caught in grave turmoil. Those who enjoin themselves in the struggle for freedom should summon all kinds of bravery. Struggle should become the emphatic declaration. Those who are caught in the cruel shackles of the government should be the first to realize this. They should be clear about the need and necessity of the struggle. The well-being and benefit of citizenry is very important. This only can fuel the growth of the nation. The whimsical restrictions imposed by the government will never yield growth. Gandhiji’s idea was to allow maximum freedom for people and minimum freedom for government. The structure or institution named government is installed only for the benefit of the humanity. The growth of civilization is based on this. But government is not one of the natural necessities. The limits of the powers of the government should certainly be defined. Independent man should move about freely. The power of the government rests in the conscience of an individual, nowhere else. Citizen should operate with independence. He should feel that he moves with absolute freedom and independence. If the government behaves like owner in everything and have bossy attitude, then freedom is a bare dream. The deliberation of Moodharinar is relevant even today. Courts, police, parliament, and other state machinery claim ownership. The silence maintained by people for 18 years is surprising, disastrous.
