Farmer Despising Village

Muslim Murasu, February 2011

Expansion in television is bringing urban mentality in villages. Everyone wants to be educated, earn well and buy car and bungalow in city. But the control and management in village should also stay. Farmer families in villages that show interest in education do not leave villages. They do not forsake the house, land patta registration, freebies and subsidies for farming, waiving of loans and other doles to villages.
Annual revenue from livestock in Tamilnadu is 14500 crore rupees. This is veritable truth from Prabakaran, VC of Tamilnadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. But farmer considers rearing cows as disgraceful. There is no interest in production; cinema songs, dance, drama are continually relished round the clock in the middle of the house. Through the villages, each Panchayat bus is going jam-packed. Processions to District Collector office with demands for new bus stand, new cement road, has become common news. Urban facilities are desired in villages. Engineers, doctors, degree holders despise agriculture. Farmers who have made their way into electricity board, water distribution, education sector, regional development office are hesitant to work. They don’t do any work without getting bribe. They torment village farmers. If 40000 crore is spent for development and expansion works in villages, 20000 crore rupees find safe shelter in the hands of the farmer, village middlemen. Stealing electricity has become common. One farmer plunders another farmer liberally in the market.
Milk production in India is 10 million tonne; six million tonne of this comes from Tamilnadu. 800 crore egg production. 350 million tonne of meat from poultry; two million from other meat. Inland fishing in village has registered 70 percent growth. Farmer enjoys the harvest without paying a penny in tax. No one can take even a handful of sand from riverbed without the knowledge of the farmer. Everyone gets their share. It is liquor for some, car, bungalow for some, and quality education for some. Village is relishing and guzzling government funds.
All the contractors appointed by government are farmers and offspring of farmers. A certain percentage, share in every government scheme goes to the villager. Broker, politician, managing officer, engineer, government employee, all these are farmers and their offsprings, albeit in different names. Villagers are not innocents, they are not honest people, and they are not hard workers. Cinema circle with a turnover of lakhs of crores of rupees is for village farming families. Multi millionaire families in Kodambakkam have got agriculture shade to them. Pledge for villages, urban facilities, this two have to be differentiated. Outer world is not aware of the loot mentality and oppressive strength of the village, farmer families.
