One Vote Per Person

Muslim Murasu, March 2013

The responsibility to write Indian Constitution was handed over to a group. Members did not show adequate interest. One person had to bear everything. Indian Constitution was created on the basis of American and England Constitutions. Indian Constitution has the pride of having gone through 117 amendments. Foundation was lost. “First Citizen” terminology clearly proves that all Indians are not equal.
One ballot per person was put to practice in 1950 for the first time. Government builds residential quarters. People are divided in three categories: high income group, middle income group and low income group. Passengers use bus, train and flight. Government employees are divided into A, B, C and D groups. Salary, facilities and power vary. Division between Lower House and Upper House also continues. Reservation divides Indians into upper castes, backward castes, most backward castes, scheduled castes and tribes.
Vote bank politics is scuttling growth in India. Those who pay tax and those who don’t cannot become equal. Democracy has not evolved during the development in the past sixty five years. Economic expert who was not directly elected by people is heading India.
Proper training is needed to use election franchise. Equal opportunity for all is a mirage. It declines divinity. God has created every person with different qualities. Visiting Managing Director’s office and a clerk’s table will make things clear. The status of equality will stare in our eyes. Learned and layman can never come together. Vote bank politics is derailing the conscious stir among Indians. Gender equality, upper caste, marginalized section, officer, staff, ruler, voter, these notions are debatable. Value for ballot differs hugely among 120 crore Indians. Informed voter and ignorant, gullible voter with no understanding are not equal. All evils in India originate from vote bank politics. Fresh discussion is needed.
